The process we stick to.

Dailies are the bridge between principle photography and post production, processing all video and audio data created on each shoot day.

PREP:

Good dailies start with detailed planning in pre-production known as workflow meetings, covering everything from data management and color decisions. These meetings require the collaboration of the dailies lab with producers, director, editors, and cinematographer. In this part of the process, important creative and technical decisions are made and a thorough job will minimize or neutralize delays and errors during on-set production.

PRINCIPLE:

-Trouble shooting and QC

Once media arrives from set, all content is ingested and copied according to the workflow decided during pre-production. Image and sound files are inspected. And files are cross referenced with scripty, camera, and audio reports. Any issues or inconsistencies are immediately reported.

-Video and audio synchronization

From there audio and video is synced. Generally, a simple step using the embedded time-code in each file. But any time-code drift is corrected by the dailies tech and clips that do not sync automatically are done manually.

-meta-data sync

Metadata is crucial to the organization that will ensure no media is lost and no delay is caused as all footage is passed along to post-production. Again, reports are all cross referenced to make sure slates are correct and adjustments are made as needed.

-Color Application

Color is applied using LUTs and CDLs provided by on-set crew. All based on creative decisions made during pre-production.

-Rendering Deliverables

Copies are delivered to post and uploaded for review.

The editorial package will consist of:

•OCF & original audio files

•Proxies rendered

•ALEs and Avid Bins created

•Reports from scripty, sound, camera, DIT, and Lab.

•CDLs used

The package is delivered in the structure and via the platform determined during workflow meetings.

 Lastly are the dailies themselves.

Dailies are rendered for creative review and uploaded to the pre-determined platform. Files are reviewed to ensure they are playing on the platform correctly.
